ABSTRACT
Allegations about male sexism and women’s oppression in the context of adult education are claims which are usually dismissed as unfounded or tendentious by a profession which considers itself profoundly democratic in its relationships with students, highly responsive to students’ needs, and characterised by values and practices which are clearly distinctive when compared with the rest of the education system.
