ABSTRACT

Kindly list the assessment techniques, strategies, methods and resources used by your school to discover dyslexia in secondary students. Responses to this request revealed that the following approaches were used to identify and assess dyslexia in secondary students:

• assessments by the Learning and Behaviour Support Services; • informal teacher observations and formal testing; • the use of parental concerns; • the use of various tests: Aston Index, Wisc Tests, Bangor Dyslexia Test,

Macmillan Reading Test, Schonell Spelling Test, British Picture Vocabulary Scale (BPVS), Ravens Progressive Matrices, Psychologists’ test (British Ability Scales – BAS) Cognitive Ability Test, Wide Range Achievement Test;

• Reading Age and Spelling Age; • previous school records; • visual, auditory, diagnostic and phonological tests; and • free writing and reading and comprehension analysis.
