ABSTRACT

This chapter offers some suggestions about published resources for able children. The intention behind this compilation of resources is to provide teachers with a starting point rather than an exhaustive list. For example, there are a large number of commercially available schemes but not all of them are mentioned below. Omission from the list should not be taken as an implied criticism! It is the approach to commercially available schemes that is important (see 'Published schemes', p. 39), and with able children in mind it seems appropriate to select elements of schemes that claim to provide challenge or that facilitate the planning of challenge. In the references to schemes that follow, these elements are identified. Additional ideas for resources can be found in 'Extra challenge' (p. 42). However, the first place to look for challenging activities is in the relevant sections of the NNS Frameworks.
