ABSTRACT

Among the most acute problems in the field of developmental disabilities is the limitation of current assessment methods. An appreciation of the functional capacities of developmentally impaired children is essential for the establishment of sound intervention strategies. Unfortunately, the conditions that beset these children, and which make assessment critical, are the very conditions which often render the children untestable with many current evaluative instruments. Motor impairments, poor linguistic ability, attentional deficits, diminished perceptal-motor skills and inadequate motivation all present impediments to conventional evaluation.
