ABSTRACT

Start the activity by drawing out a large square grid of dots in chalk on the floor or set out 25 chairs in a 5 by 5 grid. Using the pupils, get them to arrange themselves in the smallest Z arrangement. Gradually increase the arrangement by adding in more pupils. (Pupils watching will probably find it easier to see the spatial pattern if the pupils are seated.)

When recording, pupils may then find it easier to draw the shapes on square spotty paper rather than squared paper.
