ABSTRACT

The United States government is continually developing and exploring reliable methods to ensure the country’s security, and increasingly, it has turned to biometric technology. The implementation of the United States Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology program,1 for instance, involves large-scale use of biometric technology at US airports. Additionally, the US Patriot Act,2 which was passed soon after the September 11 attacks, encouraged agencies to spend funds on biometric authentication systems. The list of biometrics applications in the public and private sectors is almost endless.3
