ABSTRACT
Kaempfer's work was the forerunner of future 'floras' of Japan. The work and records he kept while in Japan also provided the manuscript for his two-volume History if Japan, published posthumously in 1727. The History was published first in English, after Sir Hans Sloane managed to acquire the original German text.
