ABSTRACT
This chapter studies the regional framework conditions for innovation and industrial R&D that are in place throughout Europe and provides contextual information for the chapters, which predominantly use qualitative material. Due to the bi-national scope of the empirical material collected, special consideration will be given to the discussion of innovation patterns in Germany and France.
