But we should spare a moment for that other passage by the same prophet, the daring Biblical phrase: 'Death, where is thy sting?' Myself , I was brought up w i t h the Bible. M y family was of the one book people sort, that even today still flattens the weeds of a beginning counter-argument wi th a hefty folio: 'the Bible says ...', 'the Koran says ... ', 'the Torah says ... '. Continually we seem to be talking about things which 'go beyond our comprehension', as it is always formulated; about something that G o d himself 'revealed' since there are by definition no witnesses: about life beyond death.
