ABSTRACT

It can be said that Schlözer was the first who was inspired with the idea of one great whole, a unity formed by all times and peoples. He wanted to comprise the whole world, everything alive, at a glance. It was, so to speak, as if he yearned to possess one hundred Argus-eyes in order to see everything that happened, even in the remotest countries of the globe, at the same time. His style is like lightening illuminating the objects almost simultaneously, if only for a moment, yet with dazzling clearness………His terms are curiously fiery, pert; they seem to be the fruit of a happy moment, a sudden inspiration, and are full of evident truth.
