ABSTRACT

According to a report released by the New York Civil Liberties Union (Mukherjee, 2007), on February 3, 2005, at Bronx Guild High School, a school security officer barged into a classroom to arrest a young female student for cursing in the hallway. When the principal asked him to leave, the officer grabbed the student, at which point the principal physically intervened to help her. The officer arrested the principal and the student and pressed criminal charges against both. The principal was removed from his position for 2 months until the charges were dropped and the student was encouraged to transfer schools. However, because she could not get a new placement, she missed several months of classroom time.
