ABSTRACT

In Johannesburg's city centre lies a forgotten relic of our past, the London Health Clinic (LHC). The building still stands in Nugget Street, just south of the railway, but the vagaries of time have left their marks: in front of what was once a glamorous swimming pool — inlaid with fine mosaic but now empty and covered with a layer of grime — are two rusty deck-chairs, a poignant reminder of the time when there were those who languished in the sweetness of sensuality. Behind these chairs are the broken window panes and dark interior of a forgotten space.
