A mother in a province near Shanghai uses the free online media QQ from her phone to instant message her daughter, wishing her luck in her university exam. Two close friends meet up in Tokyo's electric city Akihabara, thanks to using the LBS game Foursquare. A university student in Singapore takes a picture of her coffee cup with Instagram and edits it to look ‘nostalgic’, like an analogue photo, and uploads to Facebook. Her boyfriend, studying in Seoul, now knows she is thinking of him. An art student in Melbourne plays around with the augmented reality app Layar on his phone hoping it will inspire him to make a good project for his final-year assignment. Thanks to the notifications on Facebook Places on their mobile phone, two friends realise they are geographically close and organise to meet at a local cafe in Quezon City, Manila.
