ABSTRACT

In Malcolm X's classic autobiography, and in several of his published speeches, he often referred to his prison experience, leaving no doubt as to its pivotal nature. He also used the concept of prison as a favored metaphor, to indicate the character of the political, economic, social and cultural oppression of Afrikan people in the US He further implied that, just as those in actual prisons must rehabilitate themselves as a condition for their release, those in the figurative prison of US Soon after leaving prison, Malcolm began to effect change upon the world, but he was able to do so because he had first changed himself while in prison. Let imprisoned Afrikan men and women read the words of Malcolm X, particularly his autobiography, and many of them will follow his example and begin to change themselves, to become new men and women committed to acting upon the world to effect its radical transformation.
