ABSTRACT
It used to be claimed that sport and politics did not mix. This argument no longer holds any credibility and this chapter starts with an explanation of the ways in which sport is necessarily political. It discusses the points of connection between sport and politics and then considers the relationship between the state and sport and the politics of sport policies.
