ABSTRACT

There is a fine line between legends and rumors. Let us take the example of The Pied Piper, a legend that originated in the small town of Hamelin, Germany, during the Middle Ages. The earliest source is a stained-glass inscription from about 1300 that reads, “On the day of John and Paul 130 children in Hamelin went to Calvary and were brought through all kinds of danger to the Koppen mountain and lost.”
