ABSTRACT

In the field of mental health there are presently emphases on the centrality of human diversity to psychosocial development and functioning, and the need for culturally competent mental health services. These emphases are important from an ethical perspective in view of current demographic shifts in the U.S. Moreover, from a college mental health perspective, these emphases have considerable relevance, since diversity influences the world views and daily experiences of students as well as the paths their lives take beyond the college years. Less is known, however, about how practitioners process and manage diversity effectively.
