ABSTRACT

The importance of anticipating and responding effectively to ever-changing business environments has been consistently emphasized throughout this book. To conclude, Chapter 12 again takes up this theme and examines in some detail the factors that limit the ability of managers to anticipate and respond to changes in their firms’ environments. The chapter also suggests some ways in which managers and organizations might be more responsive to, and even proactive in dealing with, environmental changes. All of these suggestions are related in some way to managerial thinking and organizational learning—the other two key themes emphasized throughout this book.
