ABSTRACT

Part of the expansion in real terms, about £2•2 m., was due to greater expenditure on teachers. The remainder was due to the factors mentioned earlier but in somewhat different degree. Thus, in order of importance, meals and milk are first, at £3•3m., followed by fuel, light and cleaning at £2•4 m., books, apparatus and stationery at £1•5 m., aid to pupils at £0•8 m. and transport at £0•8 m. It is extremely interesting to note that expenditure on administration is less than it was in many pre-war years.
