ABSTRACT
Dopamine neurons are widely distributed in the nervous system, being found in the retinal amacrine cells, olfactory bulb, and autonomic ganglia. Most, however, are confined to a few nuclei in the brainstem, sending their axons to many regions of the forebrain including the cerebral cortex. These major pathways are illustrated in Figure 1.
