ABSTRACT

Despite the functional subdivisions, the same circuit is repeated across the entire cerebellum, so it is likely that the same computations are performed by all parts of the cerebellum. The cerebellum seems to be concerned with high precision timing of movements initiated by the motor cortex. In addition the cerebrocerebellum can initiate movements, particularly in response to visual and auditory stimulation. In movements triggered in this way the order of activation is: dentate nucleus-motor cortex-interpositus nucleus-muscle. Furthermore, central to the operation of the cerebellum is motor learning, the acquisition of new motor skills.
