Cell culture: overview Both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells can be grown and manipulated in culture. Cell culture provides a large number of identical cells that can be used for a variety of cell biological and biochemical studies. Such in vitro cell culture systems allow the growth of the cells to be studied, and genetic manipulations to understand gene structure and function to be performed.
