ABSTRACT

It was back in the early 1950s. I was a candidate in psychoanalytic training. During one training session my supervisor, Dr. Jan Frank,2 astonished me. He said, “We are, after all, colleagues. So, call me Jan.” Somewhere around that time he went further: “Why don’t you write a paper on scienti€c versus artistic creativity? Yes, you.” He dismissed my demurrers airily with affectionate insults.
