ABSTRACT
This chapter concentrates on the ways that children learn and the way in which a teacher's decisions and priorities affect its quality and effectiveness. Throughout the chapter there is a recognition that learning relies on motivation, working relationships and curriculum relevance. By carefully considering these issues, teachers are better equipped to help children achieve their potential. The value of dialogue in learning and the needs of gifted and talented children are also explored.
