ABSTRACT
In contrast to much of the literature on this subject, on the impact of immigrants on the local economy, we are concerned with the interaction of immigration and globalization. 1 We ask: What has been the role of migrants in the process of economic development and globalization — in their “new” country and in their “old” one? How does migration fit into a globally integrated economy?
