ABSTRACT

During the past decade, interest in organizational communication has mushroomed. In 1988, about one half of all communication departments offered one undergraduate course in organizational communication; by 1995, approximately three fourths of all departments offered undergraduate training in this area. Roughly one half of all departments report an increased demand for courses in organizational communication (Treadwell & Applbaum, 1996). The basic course in organizational communication has emerged as “an important vehicle for reflecting the status of our knowledge of the field” (Pace, Michal-Johnson, & Mills, 1990, p. 49).
