ABSTRACT

The purpose of this final chapter is to describe a formal methodology appropriate for CAIR analyses. That methodology incorporates many of the concepts, principles, definitions, techniques, and procedures that were described in earlier chapters. Thus, it builds in part on the techniques for data analysis currently in use in newsrooms that were described in chapter 5. It also incorporates many of the procedures and strategies presented in chapters 6 and 7, which discussed the conduct and consequences of a large-scale analysis of the records of the U.S. Federal Courts. In short, this chapter brings together the major methodological lessons to be learned from all of the issues, examples, and discussions of CAIR in previous chapters.
