ABSTRACT

This is where research and verification pay off again. Because you have researched the problem, verified the data, internalized it, and are now armed with thoughtfully designed questions, you will be able to recognize errors and inadequacies in respondents’ answers. Moreover, you will be able to play off the research to keep the respondent on track. Research goes a long way, but you cannot depend on research entirely. Interviews must be held to obtain:

Current information about the problem.

Verification or clarification of what you already know.

Explanations about contradictions, mismatches, controversies, gaps, etc., in the data.

Comments from respondents concerning their solutions for or attitudes and opinions about the problem.

A measurement for evaluating response validity
