ABSTRACT

T h e headline on a recent Time magazine cover story about service in our economy summed up the frustrations of millions of Americans when it implored: “Pul-eeze! Will somebody help me?” (“Pul-eeze!,” 1987) The article went on to detail the decline of the service ethic in our society and suggested that if the U.S. economy is to thrive, the service concept will have to be “serviced.”
