ABSTRACT

Isaac Goldemberg, poet, novelist, playwright, and editor, lives in New York City. Born in Peru, he is the child of a Jewish father and an Indian mother. His divided self is reflected in the semi-autobiographical novel The Fragmented Life of Don Jacobo Lerner (1984). His books also include the novel about soccer, Play by Play (1986), and the collection of poems, La vida al contado (1992). This poem, representative of Goldemberg's mixed heritage and conflicted soul, is part of the anthology Self-Portraits and Masks (2002).

Jesus, you have forgotten my America, come one day and be born in these crazy lands.
