ABSTRACT

A prominent Chicano poet whose artistic roots—the clash between literature and politics—date to the Civil Rights era, Tino Villanueva was born and raised in Texas. He is on the faculty of Boston University. His books include Shaking Off the Dark (1984), Scene from the Movie "Giant" (1993), and Chronicle of My Worst Years/Crónica de mis años peores (1994). He also edited an influential anthology, Chicanos (1985). This poem is a testament of Villanueva's visit, as a non-Jew, to the hallways of the U.S. Holocaust Museum. It was originally published in Partisan Review and reprinted in Hopscotch.
