ABSTRACT
It is the autumn of 2008, and central banks in Argentina, India, Russia, South Korea, and
Thailand have been spending billions of dollars’ worth of dollars, euros, and yen to buy their
own nations’ currencies. The goal of these central banks’ trading activities is to boost the
exchange values of their currencies in relation to the dollar, the euro, and the yen.
