ABSTRACT

For Contingency Management (CM) programs that use only clinic privileges as reinforcers, the upfront expenses may be negligible. The only costs of CM relate to administrative time costs for setting up and implementing CM. Voucher and prize CM systems will clearly incur costs, and this chapter details methods for calculating their expected costs. It initially describes approaches for determining per-person and overall costs for individually administered voucher and prize CM procedures. The costs of such equipment will vary, and searching on the Internet can probably find the readers the most competitive prices. The time needed for shopping depends in part on how many patients are enrolled in the CM protocol. If there are only a few CM patients participating at a time, shopping for prize CM should be only once a month. The best chance of success is if the readers design and implement a CM protocol that follows appropriate behavioral principles and that complements their existing clinical structure.
