ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the researcher estimates the overall direct costs for reinforcers in our Contingency Management (CM) protocol, as well as the amount of time it will take they to initiate and manage CM once the program is up and running. These costs and time estimates may exceed available resources. If so, the researcher can either scale back on our CM protocol and/or try to come up with unique methods to finance the program. In Spain, García-Rodríguez, Secades-Villa, Higgins, Fernández-Hermida, and Carballo evaluated the potential of soliciting donations for CM. They first surveyed patients about desired items and then developed lists of local vendors that sold those items. In North America, the response rate to solicitation requests may be lower than it is in Spain, but it is still possible to finance CM programs via donations. To make a successful business case that our CM protocol may be cost neutral or even resource generating.
