ABSTRACT

The rise of the evidence-based practice movement and the embrace of a more enlightened understanding of the contribution of diverse forms of evidence have led to a surge of interest in mixed research synthesis. Mixed research synthesis is the integration of findings from primary qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods studies in targeted domains of research (Pope, Mays, & Popay, 2007; Sandelowski, Voils, & Barroso, 2006). In this chapter, we provide an overview of the distinctive challenges of and approaches for conducting mixed research synthesis studies.
