ABSTRACT

There have been significant advances in nursing research during the past several decades, and an increasing number of nurses have been involved in research activities in some way (Havens, Stone, & Brewer, 2002). Furthermore, nurses have invested a great deal of time and effort in initiating and conducting research, including both quantitative and qualitative studies. With a recent emphasis on research funding in promotion and tenure process of the academia in general (Adderly-Kelly, 2003), nurses’ research competence has become more important than ever before, and each research grant award plays an essential role in promotion and tenure process of a nurse researcher and her/his later research.
