ABSTRACT
This chapter invites nurse researchers to explore current approaches to qualitative research, with particular attention to developing an evidence base for practice. The aim of the chapter is to raise questions about what qualitative methodologies have to offer as we develop evidence to support practice. Embedded in and heavily influenced by the canons of “science,” nurse researchers can gain much by looking beyond that domain, to recapture the tremendous potential found in the intellectual traditions that form the basis of qualitative methodologies.
