ABSTRACT
Thus in introducing this section of the reader it is necessary to issue an initial caveat. Talking about the idea of global citizenship is very difficult, indeed impossible. It is not a singular thing, arguably never has been and certainly is not in contemporary debate. Instead, this section aims to offer four alternative takes on how we might think about the idea of global citizenship, particularly in the circumstances of contemporary politics, both national and international. However, it would also be wrong to suggest that these four readings are either exclusive of one another or exhaustive in their coverage of possible ways of thinking coherently and constructively about global citizenship.
