ABSTRACT
One of the fi rst steps in trying to prevent and manage workplace bullying is
understanding how frequently it occurs. This chapter reviews the data on the
prevalence of bullying in the working population, and some of the reasons
why it is diffi cult to know exactly how common bullying is in a particular
workplace. Despite variations in prevalence, we know that bullying is very
costly for individual targets, organisations, and the community.
