ABSTRACT

We all probably remember Stephen Leacock’s knight who, hastening to rescue his princess, jumped on his horse and galloped off in all directions. I want to avoid giving a similarly useless response to the range and complexity of issues, topics, and themes discussed in the 18 chapters of this challenging and thought-provoking book. The binaries considered here are multiple and intersecting—a sort of intellectual spaghetti junction. Pity the poor knight if he had to shoot off simultaneously along such a knot of possible pathways.1
