ABSTRACT

I write this chapter as a kind of reflective dialogue with Gunther Kress, whom I have known since 1990 and worked with more closely since 2005. This later period started, as I remember it, when our department invited Gunther as a visiting professor. Some years later, he also became a co-researcher in the project “The museum, the exhibition, the visitor,” sponsored by the Swedish Research Council. During these years, we have discussed aspects of design and multimodality, and finally we also wrote the book Design för lärande—ett multimodalt perspektiv (Designs for Learning—a Multimodal Perspective) (Selander & Kress, 2010) in which we tuned in our different perspectives and shaped a new “Gestalt” of how to understand learning.
