ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a research project based on the Dynamic Approach to School Improvement (DASI) that aimed to establish effective school self-evaluation (SSE) mechanisms. In Chapter 3, it was stressed that the improvement efforts in education should be based at the school level. This can be done by looking at the relations between the school factors and the aims of the specific improvement project. This implies that school stakeholders should make use of the literature associated with the aims of the specific improvement project and merge the findings of this research area with the value assumptions and the essential characteristics of the dynamic model. Moreover, in Chapter Three, the main steps of the DASI were presented and the roles of school stakeholders and the research advisory team and their interrelations were discussed. Finally, the role of SSE for identifying priorities for improvement was stressed, and it was argued that DASI could be used as the means of developing and sustaining such effective SSE mechanisms.
