ABSTRACT

In sport it is axiomatic that demands of match-play increase with the level of participation and are reflected in fitness profiles of players. This has not always been confirmed in racket sports, as players of low, medium and high skill categories may demonstrate similar heart rate responses to participation in play (Reilly, 1990). Nevertheless competitors at different levels may be distinguished by their training programmes or their fitness profiles. This may apply particularly to female lawn tennis players, for whom there have been few studies reported in the literature. The aim of this study was to provide a kinanthropometric profile of female county lawn tennis players and compare this with club standard players.
