ABSTRACT

The child protagonists’ friendship in Astrid Lindgren’s last novel Ronia, the Robber’s Daughter refl ects the emotional depth and complexity of grown-up relationships to a remarkable extent-a mystic fairy tale with references to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet (Becker 124), though Ronia does not tell the love story of “a pair of star-cross’d lovers” but rather explores the intricacy and complexity of adult relationships within the context of two children’s friendship.
