ABSTRACT
The explanation of the theory of evolution is generally credited to Charles Darwin, although another 19th-century naturalist, Alfred Wallace, had separately come to similar conclusions. In the end, they ‘launched’ the theory with joint papers to the Royal Society in 1858, and Darwin published his book ‘The Origin of Species by means of Natural Selection’ in 1859.
