ABSTRACT
The Histogram uses, where possible, known dates of operation, official recognition and death, failure or withdrawal from the trade of 79 main merchants in Sino-Western trade, 1686–1798. The names and dates of pre-1700 merchants were patched together from English, Chinese, Dutch and Portuguese sources and may not be exact.
