ABSTRACT

The Lithium Information Center was established formally in 1975 at the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison, Wisconsin. It had its informal beginning somewhat earlier as one of us (JWJ) struggled to make organizational sense out of a rapidly expanding collection of abstracts, articles, chapters and books on the subject of lithium in medicine. The organizational powers of the computer were called into use (under the guidance of JHG) to bring order out of chaos. From this collaboration arose the Information Center, the goals of which were to acquire, organize, archive and disseminate as much as possible of the world’s literature on lithium in medicine1-5.
