ABSTRACT

The research evidence examined in previous chapters confirms that many factors influence the way the brain develops and over some we have little control. We can, however, identify children who are likely to be ‘at risk’ for reasons such as:

concern during pregnancy

low birth weight

pre- or post-maturity

assisted delivery

hyper- or hypo-activity from birth

feeding difficulties

food intolerance

failure to achieve expected developmental milestones in the acquisition of early motor skills.
