ABSTRACT

A common phrase spoken at weddings is “the two shall become one.” However, couples often have difficulty merging two sets of ideas, dreams, and desires into one. A couple enters marriage with different personalities, values and needs, expectations, and goals. Creating this new life together and negotiating the differences can be a challenge for any couple. In an effort to deal with these differences, couples enter premarital counseling to gain insight on how to develop a fulfilling relationship. Through premarital counseling, a couple can explore their dreams, their fears, and their differences and come to a greater understanding of their choices, needs, and behaviors.
