ABSTRACT
This chapter addresses the development and use of a broad category of assessment instruments that are referred to herein as objective self-report tests, or simply selfreport tests. This assessment category is linked inextricably to the eld of personality assessment. Some assessment texts dene self-report assessment separately from personality assessment, whereas other texts include additional categories of assessment methods in this vein. For this book, a decision was made to refer to this general category of assessment instruments as self-report tests because the term is descriptive of the type of activity the assessment involves and because many (if not most) of the selfreport tests reviewed in this chapter and in later chapters are not designed to measure the broad construct of personality, but to assess specic aspects of social and emotional characteristics and behavior based on the child or adolescent’s own perceptions.
